Mahalaxmi

The micro-market

Mahalaxmi is defined by open space in a city that has very little of it. The racecourse gives the neighbourhood a wide green centre, the Haji Ali shrine sits out on the water at its edge, and Worli and Tardeo are minutes away in either direction.

Much of the new construction here stands on former mill and industrial land, which is why the area now carries some of the tallest residential towers in central Mumbai. The homes that matter are the ones with a protected view over the racecourse or the sea, and those tend to hold their value through every cycle.
